Family Message Board

Want a simple, elegant way to stay organized and keep track of family activities? We've got the answer! Just pick up a roll of ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape, a few paint colors of your choice, and some chalkboard paint. With a little time, you can easily create a message board that gives everyone in the family a space to share events, activities, and important notes.

PREPARATION

  • Remove any wall hangings (pictures, nails, fixtures)
  • Fill nail holes, then use sandpaper to smooth the wall
  • Make sure wall is clean, dust-free and dry before you begin

Step By Step Guide:

Step 1: Paint Basecoat

Paint Basecoat

With ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape Multi-Surface, mask along the baseboard trim. Paint your entire wall with the darker base color. Carefully remove the tape, and let the paint dry for 24 hours.

Step 2: Measure & Mask

Measure & Mask

Using a ruler and a pencil, measure and mark the entire base area of your message boards. Use ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape for Delicate Surfaces to mask along the outside of your pencil lines.

Step 3: Paint Accent Color

Paint Accent Color

Paint this entire masked area with your lighter accent color. Carefully remove the tape and let the paint dry 24 hours.

Step 4: Mask Borders

Mask Borders

With ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape for Delicate Surfaces, mask over your border areas, to create the squares for your large chalkboard and the smaller chalkboard areas.

Step 5: Paint Chalkboards

Paint Chalkboards

Next, paint the squares with chalkboard paint following the manufacturer instructions. Carefully remove the tape from around the message boards, and let them dry 24 hours.

Step 6: Add Finishing Touches

Add Finishing Touches

For a finishing touch, add a shelf underneath your chalkboard area to hold chalks and erasers.

Note: For best results, follow the paint manufacturer's instructions regarding priming (if needed), recoat and dry times.
