Add depth, dimension and warmth to any room with a fun, attractive motif of overlapping squares! Use pastels to create a calming atmosphere for baby. Try richer, deeper colors to accent picture frames, decorative wall hangings and more. All you need is your ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape and a few paint colors, and you'll have a personalized wall design that reflects your creativity and style.
Smooth the wall with sandpaper and wipe with a damp cloth.
Apply your basecoat color to the entire wall and let it dry 24 hours.
Plan your design: Sketch it out on paper, playing with the layout and creating different sizes of squares and rectangles, until you come up with a motif you like.
With your paper sketch as a guide, use a pencil and a level to draw your design directly onto the wall. HINT: Keep the center of your design in the center of the wall, following the artist's "Golden Rule" of using 2/3 of the wall for the design and 1/3 to flank the sides.
Step 2: Mask Squares
Using ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape for Delicate Surfaces, mask along the pencil lines for your first set of squares. HINT: "Batch" the work –mask all the boxes that will be the same color (starting with your lightest color), so you can paint them all at the same time.
Step 3: Start Painting
Grab your paint brush or roller and start adding color to your wall. For best results, start with your lightest color and finish with your darkest.
Step 4: Remove Tape
Before the paint dries, gently remove the tape. Once the paint is completely dry, repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 for each new color.
Note: For best results, follow the paint manufacturer's instructions regarding recoat and dry times.
