Take inspiration from the Grand Old Flag to create this classic design. With red, white and blue as your starting point, and ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape as your guide, you can easily revive an old wooden tray to add a touch of charm to your summertime holiday.
With ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape for Delicate Surfaces, create a border along the outer edge of the tray's base. Paint the sides of the tray blue and let dry for 24 hours.
Step 2: Create Blue Squares
Using a speed square and a pencil, divide the tray base into four equal squares. Mask one set of opposite squares and apply two coats of blue paint. Gently remove the tape before the paint dries.
Step 3: Add Red Stripes
Mask each white square with ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape, placing one strip of tape next to the other. Remove every other strip of tape, then paint 2 coats of red paint over the exposed stripes. Gently remove the tape before the paint dries.
Step 4: Paint Borders & Stars
Paint a red border along the outer edge of each blue square and let the paint dry. Finish the tray by using a store-bought star stencil and apply two or three coats of white paint.
Note: For best results, follow the paint manufacturer's instructions regarding recoat and dry times.
