No need for a template. Just start taping and see what you can create with your own imagination. If you like working with a pattern better, you can find links to tape patterns and other ideas on our Creative Techniques page. For freshly painted surfaces (at least 24 hours old), 3M recommends Scotch® Delicate Surface Painter’s Tape. And be sure to visit our How to Tape page for basic paint prep and tape removal tips.
Paint surface with your base color. (The spaces you tape will remain this color). Then wait at least 24 hours for the paint to dry.
Now tape your painted surface with lines, stripes, zigzags, etc. Get creative and go free-form, or find a pattern from links below.
Paint over your taped design. Two light coats of paint are better than one thick coat.
Wait 24 hours for the paint to dry. Then slowly remove the tape to reveal your clean, modern design.
We asked some creative experts to share how they use tape as pattern to liven up their work and living spaces.
